This picture almost looks 3-D! Great shot. I saw a bunch of these mushrooms on my recent camping trip. I looked them up when we got back, and they look like Amanita muscaria ssp. flavivolvata or Amanita muscaria var. formosa. Either way, looks like you have one funky mushroom on your hands.

I'm with Pam. As the image was coming up on the screen and I could just see the top, I thought it was a bun, too! I am always making Mark get down to get a shot I want. We use our biggest knee pad. (Of course, I could get down and take the photo myself but I know I will like his better!)

I think it's a great picture. I saw a couple tiny mushrooms in the garden but would have had to lay on a few other plants to get a shot;) I'll follow your link and check out all the photos.

I haven't seen the other photos, Jean, but this one looks worthy of a prize to me--great shot! The yoga mat tip is a terrific idea; when I've tried to take photos from the ground level, I'm always covered in grass stains afterwards. And several times, it's been like Island Gal--my Golden thinks it means playtime:)
I'm no good at identifying mushrooms, which is why I don't go mushroom hunting:)
